Meet Jeff and Sandra; Trusted House Sitters with a Passion for Travel
We are Jeff and Sandra, married for over 40 years. As a veteran (Jeff) and a former military brat (Sandra), we have had the opportunity to live and travel to various locations throughout the United States, England, Europe, Caribbean, and South Pacific. While we have enjoyed living in the same state for the past 20 years, our passion for travel has inspired us to sell nearly all of our possessions and commit to exploring the world for at least the next two years. We plan to spend anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months in each country, immersing ourselves in the local cultures, enjoying the food, meeting new people along the way (and sharing our story with our readers).
Throughout our 40 years of marriage we’ve cherished the companionship of various pets including fish, birds, cats, dogs, horses and chickens. We briefly hosted a couple of peahens but it would be quite a stretch to call Heckle and Jeckle ‘pets’.
We have brought several rescues into our lives – including a 3 week old kitten abandoned by his mum who spent his first several months as a ‘mechanics helper’, riding around with Jeff as he made service calls so he could be bottle fed every couple hours until he was strong enough to be left alone for a half day at a time. Want to know what makes grown men act like smitten little girls? Show up at the garage or parts store with an eyes-barely-open kitten in your coveralls breast pocket. Rugrat wound up staying with us for about 15 years and through 4 moves before moving on to Cathalla.

We’ve owned several houses over the years, becoming skilled do-it-yourselfers along the way. We’re capable of handling mishaps, both small and large, with confidence, and without panic. From minor repairs to major renovations, we’ve successfully managed it all. With our expertise, we can quickly assess the situation and determine whether professional assistance is required immediately or if it can be scheduled for a more convenient time.
Jeff’s Retirement and Sandra’s Remote Work: A Winning Combination
Jeff is retired and is dedicating his time to documenting our globe-trotting adventures for our friends, family, and followers. I, Sandra, will continue working remotely. As such, reliable wifi is essential for us and you can rest assured that while we plan to explore the areas we are visiting, we will also be spending time at home working, and ensuring your pets are well-fed, exercised, and comfortable.
House Sitting: Our Path to Community Connection
We are choosing to take on pet and house sitting opportunities as we feel that will give us a much better connection to the community we are exploring. We aren’t traveling so we can tick the boxes of things to see; we are traveling to determine what retirement might look like for us, whether that be a specific location or continued travel. Our schedule is our own so we can be very flexible when it comes to locations and dates however because of issue surrounding work visas, we are limited to our home country (the United States) and countries with very liberal rules regarding pet sitters.
Financial Stability and Independence
While we are not wealthy, we are independently solvent/self-supporting, so even though we are nomads, we chose this lifestyle and you can trust that we are financially independent and fully committed to providing excellent care for your home and pets.
Early Arrival, Smooth Transition
Depending on the location and our travel plans, we may arrive a few days early to check into a hotel or Airbnb. This allows us time to enjoy a few touristy activities and catch up with local friends before meeting with the homeowner for a smooth handoff. We understand the importance of a seamless transition and will make sure to settle into our new routine of remote work, caring for your pets and home, and getting to know the local community.
